Описание каналаRussian musical culture — both operatic and symphonic — draws attention by the multiplicity of the two West-European dances: polonaises and waltzes. These dances took a firm root in the Russian «artictic soil» and gave rise to many a masterpieces of the Russian music. So, it′s only natural to consider them to be an original and remarkable phenomenon of the Russian musical culture.
Polish solemn dance-procession — polonaise — penetrated in the Russian life and influenced composer′s creative activity already at the end of the 18th century. Instrumental and choral polonaises were written by the predecessors of M. Glinka. But it was Glinka who transformed polonaise from the attribute of the court life into the genuine Russian piece of art. Glinka′s tradition of polonaise composing got the further development, rich and fruitful, in operas and ballets of the Russian composers of the 19th century.
